When To Visit The Doctor
Posted by: Admin at June 6th, 2009
Yeast infection treatment can often be done at home using over the counter drugs, so it can be difficult to know when and if you should visit the doctor. If you have any doubts about which medication you should be on or what your symptoms are then you should always visit the doctor straight away who’ll be able to advise you on the best course of action for you specifically. Don’t worry about it being an embarrassing condition as the majority of women get it at some point in their lives and it is a completely normal treatment to have.
If you try to use a medication and find that your symptoms don’t go away within a week, or get worse, then you should always visit your doctor. If you are pregnant you should always contact your doctor before starting a course of medication to be on the safe side as some of the medications for yeast infections shouldn’t be taken while pregnant.
If you find that the yeast infection keeps reoccurring then you should visit the doctor too. If you have a sexual partner then the infection may be being transferred between you so you may have to both take the medication at the same time to eradicate the problem, but before doing this you should contact your doctor.
If you have other symptoms such as a fever or blood being discharged then you should immediately contact your health care professional as this could be a symptom of a more serious problem that may need urgent attention. Vaginal yeast infections can exhibit similar symptoms to much more serious conditions which is why if your symptoms don’t stop within a week a doctor should be consulted immediately.
Another reason for visiting the doctor is if you have a weak immune system already.
In most cases going to a hostpital isn’t required for a yeast infection or candidasis, but if you are experiencing chills, vomiting or pain along with a vaginal discharge then you should seek medical care at a hospital immediately as again these can be symptoms of a more serious condition such as kidney infections.
In all cases, if you are unsure of the best treatment or whether you have a yeast infection you should always contact a doctor as soon as possible so that treatment can begin. It’s always better to be safe and get a professional diagnosis.
